This bible utility works in the browser and allows you to search and display text from several english versions of the bible.

This utility is implemented completely without databases, relying on static javascript arrays for its data. It was done this way for speed and so that it could be run in any environment, including locally, without the need for a webserver.

How To Search:

The search function will return every verse which includes all search words, without regard to the order they are found within the verse.

You can also use "quotes" around multi-word phrases. The search function does a simple text comparison, so for example, a search for 'man' will match 'human' and 'mankind' as well. Search terms are case-insensitive. Some examples follow:

How To Lookup Bible References:

References can be entered as a sequence of independent references separated by a semicolon (';') character. Each reference can be a single passage, a collection of passages, or a range. Acceptable forms of notation are shown below:

• "Malachi" (to display a whole book)
• "gen-rev" (the whole bible)
• "John 3" (to display a whole chapter)
• "Jn 3:16" (to display just a verse)
• "John 3-5:2" (to display a range of chapters)
• "John 3:14-18" (to display a range of verses in a chapter)
• "John 3:16-18,20,22,4:11" (use comma to display multiple verse sections)
• "Ge 2:3-5; Ex 4:11; Lev 1" (use semicolon separator to display more than one passage)
• "Dan 8:14; 9:21-25; Rev 11:3-5" (It is not necessary to type the book name if it's the same as the previous)
• "1Sa 2:3-5,7,10; 3; 4:2-4,6" (Example of combination of features)

Most common forms of abbreviation for bible book names are recognized. See the list below for supported names. Numbers that prefix a book name must be numeric and placed before the book without a space (e.g. 1jn, 2chron) and are case insensitive.
